The pandemic lockdowns had been hard on everyone. Many people lost their jobs, while others are just bored to death at home. But these will benefit humanity in the long run. We just have to be patient and perhaps focus on other things like training our doggos at home.
This is exactly what Monica Elkhalifa did when the lockdowns started in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The dog mom has two dogs, Miko and Akira. Monica noticed a year ago that Akira, her Shiba Inu pooch, is pretty inquisitive. For example, he would look behind the TV screen to see where the people in the movies go.
Akira would also stay underneath their dining table which is made of glass, to have a different perspective on the things on the table. Seeing Akira’s behavior, Monica knew she had a super-smart pup. So she started teaching him mental exercises since their walks are limited.
Monica taught her pooch how to identify numbers on flashcards that she made herself. The dog mom was surprised at how quickly her doggo was able to memorize the numbers one to ten. Then Monica made Akira understand their value by drawing tennis balls on the cards. Soon Akira learned how to add the numbers.
We know, it’s definitely mind-blowing. But get this, Akira can also do recognize colors. Despite the fact that doggos are supposed to only recognize a limited spectrum of colors, this pooch can pretty much identify a lot of them. Monica herself was also doubtful about the color-identification exercises, but she just gave it a try.
Akira can also answer yes or no questions, and he knows over 90 words. This pooch can definitely be in contention for the world’s smartest doggo. Of course, after every successful answer, he gets a doggie treat from his mom, and his brother Miko gets one, too. See Akira showcase his smarts in the clip below.
