Strays Seen As Urban Plague:
In Thailand, animals are seen as an urban plague and the stray dog is no exception, their life hinge’s on finding scraps of food here and there.
Because over 70,000.00 dogs are born on the streets yearly, many cities resort to eliminating the large numbers.
Research shows that 10% out of 7.83 million dogs in Thailand are stray dogs, and people are unhappy with them.
Thailand Crime is a Big Problem in Urban Areas :
Thailand has bigger problems than street dogs, like most countries, the biggest cities are teeming with crime and it’s aimed mostly at foreign visitors. But, what if the stray problem could actually be the solution to the crime problem?
Camera Toting Canines:
That’s how the idea of arming the dogs with a camera came about, it was a kind of surveillance system in mass.
These camera mounted dogs would cover every nook and cranny of the urban communities of the city and urban areas.
Operation Stray Dogs For Good Use
This unique concept began in March of 2017 and was developed by Cheil Advertising agency, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Samsung Electronics.
Since then, they have been fitting stray dogs with special vests carrying tiny hidden cameras —partners with Soi Dog Foundation, an organization for rescuing dogs.
The idea behind this project was to create a kind of mass surveillance system that would cover hidden areas of the urban communities.
Dogs Wear Vests
The stray dogs wear vests installed with tiny hidden cameras, equipped with sensors and when the dog barks frantically it triggers the authorities.
The video stream allows them to see and access the situation via mobile phone and computer application
Stray Dogs Aren’t Much Different Than House Dogs
The stray dogs aren’t much different than house dogs, said a member of the team that came up with the camera idea.
We wanted a tool that would show people the benefits these stray dogs could make as night watchmen.
Now people can feel safer in their communities while being useful as well, instead of being a problem, they were the solution.
Street Dog To The Rescue
Don’t expect to see this movie” Bangkok street dog To The Rescue” anytime soon.. because these cameras aren’t able to capture video all the time.
Instead, they start recording, stream video to the authorities’ screens, when the dog barks in a way that’s considered unusually frantic — like, the shrill bark of a surprised dog the authorities check it out.
Could it be a mugging? A murder? A large snake, A fire? Or, is it just another dog getting too close to another dog’s turf.
There is room for error in the system and, even though it was introduced last year, the so-called Smart Vests the dogs wear are just prototypes.

Take A Bite Out of Crime
It’s a longshot for taking a bite out of the crime situation but it is a start. It keeps the strays from being exterminated.
This program gives the strays a purpose as well as worth, making people feel that these stray dogs aren’t just pests.
They can become the neighborhood watchers for the communities, and maybe these camera-toting canines might be liked by the locals.
Zero to Hero Canines
Zero to Hero in the blink of an eye, these canines keep “the eyes” watching everywhere while keeping people safer.
It is like having four-legged Chips on patrol at all times, a very useful and productive project that could work to fight crime and give purpose to the dogs that had no purpose.
