If Jess Christoffers ever questioned whether her pups could tell she was pregnant, she doesn’t now.
In February of last year, as her belly had grown, her two dogs, Rocky and Diogee, had become obsessed with it. According to her, the two rested on her belly all of the time, but Rocky did it more.
Christoffers adopted Rocky as a companion for Diogee. She knew he needed one to stay busy with when her baby comes.
However, instead of diverting Diogee from her pregnancy, Rocky collaborated with him, watching and protecting her throughout the day. Christoffers said that her two dogs were constantly attached to her. Diogee used to greet her boyfriend right at the door. But during her pregnancy, he just sat up and just stayed with her.
Dogs could smell out changes in the body chemistry of their owners, such as an increase in hormone levels when pregnant. They may also notice the changes in their mom’s mobility and mood, which could make them become more protective.
While not all dogs are attuned to such changes, Rocky and Diogee obviously are. During their mom’s pregnancy, they had spent their time glued to her side or acting like her security detail.
According to Christoffers, Diogee guarded their house as if he’s a madman. Delivery drivers didn’t even like getting near their living room window. It had gotten worse when she’s about to give birth.
Fortunately for the dogs, they’re seldom alone, thanks to Christoffers’ job at a doggy daycare. While she’s at work, Rocky and Diogee get to play with some other residents, taking some break from their security duties.
With only a few precious weeks left to go, the whole family was busy getting ready for the new arrival. And the pups can’t wait to meet their new sibling.
Christoffers was ready to have a few personal space back. However, she knew Rocky and Diogee would protect her baby with as much commitment and love as they give to her.
